- Great choice for cabinetry, wall paneling, office & residential furniture
Specifications
Fabrication
MDF panels are created using fine wood particles reduced to fibers through steam, then combined with a resin and bonded together under heat and pressure. The texture is smooth and close-grained, creating a smoother surface than Particle Board cores. This uniform texture creates homogenous panels that are ideal for paint, veneers, or decorative laminates. Primed a bright White, these MDF panels are ready immediately for painting with any color imaginable
Workability
MDF is incredibly stable because of its unique close-binding fabrication. The surface is flat and smooth without knots, allowing tools to easily cut through and work the panel. Precise machining and finishing are easily performed. The surface is easily painted, and it is a stable core for decorative overlays.
Standards
The American National Standard Institute (ANSI) created a standard for Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF). It is the North American industry’s voluntary standard that classifies MDF by physical and mechanical properties and identifies product grades. Specifications identified in the Standard include physical and mechanical properties, dimensional tolerances, and formaldehyde emission limits. Also, various overlays and surface treatments have been shown to reduce product emissions significantly.
Sustainability
Regulations by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) establish formaldehyde emissions limits for MDF. To meet the needs of the market, many MDF manufacturers have voluntarily developed no-added formaldehyde (NAF) and ultra-low emitting formaldehyde (ULEF) products.
