Its shock resistance has made Ash synonymous with baseball bats, tool handles and other high-impact applications. Ash is an economical choice thanks to its wide range and hardy nature, making it an excellent stand-in for more expensive hardwood varieties. Ash has a pleasing color, but it is also easily stained, finished and steamed for a highly customizable look. Sustainably harvested, economical and extremely reliable, choose Ash for your next project.

- Sustainably and domestically harvested
Plain Sawn:
Cutting tangentially through the tree’s growth rings, Plain Sawn Ash utilizes the entire log while minimizing waste. The result is a grain pattern that displays a very traditional and recognizable cathedral pattern.
Lumber is a living product, responding to its environment as a tree does to its forest. Humidity, age, area and cut will slightly alter the appearance of the lumber product. The product images on this page are a sample of this species, not an exact depiction of the product you will receive.

Specifications
Prime Grade Lumber:
Using the National Hardwood Lumber Association (NHLA) Grading standard, Prime Lumber is a premium grade. Developed for the European export market, Prime captures grades within the Select and Better and FAS 1 Face and better grades and ensures only the very best production, drying and packaging standards are used to meet the demands of that market.
Prime Ash is designed to meet a minimum yield of 83 1/3% clear-wood cuttings on the best face. Allowed widths start at 6” and wider before kiln drying with lengths 7’ and longer.
Contact your Sales or Specifications Representative to guarantee you receive the product that best meets your requirements.
Color/Appearance:
Ash possesses bright beige to light brown sapwood and light to medium brown heartwood. Sapwood tends to be more prevalent with little distinction between sap and heartwood. The grain is typically straight and regular for a desirable uniform appearance. Figuring is possible, with curled pieces sought after for artistic designs. Due to its pleasing grain and light color, Ash is sometimes finished to mimic the appearance of oak.
Workability:
Commonly used in flooring, millwork, tool handles, baseball bats and hockey sticks, Ash is a durable and reliable hardwood. Its regular straight grain and medium texture allows easy processing with both hand tools and machinery. Ash is easy to glue and can be stained or finished to match the appearance of oak. Sought for its shock resistant quality, Ash is a popular choice for hand tools, baseball bats and other high-impact applications.
Sustainability:
As a staple of the North American lumber industry, the health and future of White Ash is of the utmost importance. Ash is a robust hardwood species most common in the northeastern United States and southeastern Canada. Ash constitutes 4.5% of all U.S. hardwood growing stock, with the yearly growth rate exceeding yearly harvest. White Ash is cultivated, harvested and produced using sustainable practices.
We recognize the importance of ethically harvested lumber. As our most valuable resource, sustainably harvested forests increase the rate of carbon sequestration and significantly cut carbon emissions. Wood is a renewable and sustainable material for the built environment, requiring less energy than alternatives like concrete or steel. From harvesting to recycling, lumber is the most carbon-efficient choice for building materials. Wood is of the few elements that can increase sustainability in a building’s life cycle, reduce waste, and create positive biophilic health benefits. Increasingly, architects and designers are calling for a return to wood as the prominent basic building material.
As an early adopter of FSC®, we recognize the importance of sustainably harvested lumber. FSC® Certified lumber is available upon request. Contact your Sales or Specifications Representative for more information.
