Details
Accoya® is a softwood lumber product that is modified through a process called acetylation. This groundbreaking technology modifies the wood uniformly through its cross section, creating an extremely strong and durable wood that is uniquely rot and water resistant, durable, and versatile. Sustainably sourced, and with a low total lifetime carbon cost, Accoya® actively contributes to a circular, bio-based economy as a truly sustainable building material.
Contact your Sales or Specification representative for more information on how to further customize Accoya®.
Use, Maintenance, and Care of Accoya®
Processing does not affect the unique properties of Accoya®, as it is modified to the core. It is relatively easy to process and comparable to a softwood or medium density hardwood such as Yellow Poplar. With the right training, no special tools are required for cross cutting, ripping, planing, routing and drilling.
- Disposal: Accoya® is non-toxic, can be reused when no longer needed, or can be disposed like regular wood.
- Gluing: Accoya® can be glued using many commonly used wood adhesive systems.
- Fasteners and Other Hardware: Corrosion-resistant, high-quality 304 or 316 stainless steel or naval brass fasteners are recommended. Chrome-plated aircraft anodized aluminum or proprietary epoxy or ceramic-coated fasteners may be a suitable alternative. Zinc-plated or galvanized steel are not recommended.
- Coatings: Many high quality outdoor approved wood coating systems are compatible with Accoya®.

Specifications
Due to its improved properties—such as increased durability, improved thermal insulation and longer coating life because of increased dimensional stability—Accoya® offers an industry leading warranty and provides several environmental gains during its use phase. The wood shrinks and swells less when wet and is less susceptible to decay or insect attack. This makes Accoya® an ideal choice for those looking for performance and sustainable building materials.
Sustainability Standards Certifications
- Forest Certification: Provide acetylated wood produced from wood obtained from forests certified by an FSC®-accredited certification body to comply with FSC STD-01-001, FSC® "Principles and Criteria for Forest Stewardship.
- Cradle to Cradle Certified: Accoya® is one of the very few building products to have acquired Cradle to Cradle™ Certification on the elusive Gold level.
Warranty
- Manufacturer's standard form in which manufacturer agrees to replace Accoya® that fails per warranty guidelines within specified warranty period.
Warranty Period
- Fifty (50) years for above-ground installations.
